“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” ~Sir John Lubbock, 4th Baronet, English banker, liberal politician, philanthropist, scientist, and polymath.
When was the last time you rested?
I don’t mean when did you go to bed last night. I mean, when did you last take time to rest your mind, body, and spirit? When were you last in nature? Or connecting with our larger universe is some way?
Time is on my mind. Energy, or rather lack thereof, is on my mind. I’d like 6 more hours a day to accomplish all that I dream of, and to have the energy I had when I was 24 years old, please.
I think a good “rest” is in order. For clarity. I agree with the featured quote. Rest is in no way a waste of time.
Time spent in nature can (among other things):
- allow focus to develop – priorities reveal themselves
- allow inspiring ideas to surface
- be rejuvenating (unless of course, you’re swattin’ off mosquitos the size of drones, then it could be exhausting!)
- allow space in the heart, mind, and body for healing
Time spent in nature can bring about a focus which is often lost in the pressures of everyday life. It is good for healing deep sorrows and grief.
Clearly, Time is loudly pronouncing it’s punctuated relentless existence reminding me time is limited. Daily. Weekly. Monthly. Yearly. My physical lifetime is limited.
In an attempt to give “time” my attention, I took a walk (or song!) down memory lane. I searched for songs with Time in the title (or about). I was pleasantly surprised by how many I found that I grew up with! But why should I be surprised? Time is classic, we all struggle with it at some point in our lives. I’m having one of those moments. Here are a few songs you might listen to when feeling the limits of time (or come up with your own list):
Time in a Bottle – Jim Croce *tears, sniffle*
Time – Pink Floyd
Time is on My Side – Rolling Stones
Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? – Chicago
Your Time is Gonna Come – Led Zeppelin
Love Me Two Times – Doors
Foreplay/Long Time – Boston
Reelin’ in the Years – Steely Dan
Too Much Time on My Hands – Styx
Time Waits for No One – Rolling Stones
Time for Me to Fly – REO Speedwagon
Every Time You Go Away – Paul Young
Time – The Alan Parsons Project
Long Time Gone – Crosby, Stills, & Nash
Where Have All The Good Times Gone? – The Kinks
By The Time I Get To Phoenix – Glen Campbell *sniffle, sniffle*
Wasted Time – The Eagles
Another Place, Another Time – Jerry Lee Lewis – I didn’t grow up with this one but it brings me back to a two-step dance in Texas one Thanksgiving weekend long ago, in a prior life…
Can’t tell I’m a classic rock fan!
What’s your favorite song with time in it?
Hopefully, you get the idea.
Until next time!
